Hawkes Mfg. Co. Standard Planetarium. [Tellurian with 16" boom] Hawkes Mfg. Co. Kansas City, Mo. c1910. Tellurian supported by a 12-sided nickel-plated iron base with scale of the months, quarters and zodiac signs. Ebonized wood column supports large six inch gilded steel sphere representing the sun with small moon-like satellite, from which extends a 16" aluminum boom supporting a terrestrial 3.5" globe with moon sphere. As boom swings, mechanical gears move spheres. (Functions well). Boom has inset compass. Gores show Austria-Hungary and German colonies in Africa. Globe surface with some non-archival(?) tape. Scarce complete. Overall handsome display piece. I.D.#08988.
