A finely engineered example of of an Orrery showing the nine planets of the solar system
One clockwise rotation of the handle is equal to five Earth days.
As the Earth orbits the Sun it rotates anticlockwise on its axis and at the same time it is orbited by the Moon which also rotates about its axis following an inclined path as it does so.
All the planets orbit the Sun in an anticlockwise direction.
Mars,Jupiter,Saturn,Uranus and Neptune have a selection of moons which are geared to orbit anticlockwise around their parent planets .
Neptune has the addition of Triton which is driven clockwise
The Solar System is so large that it is not possible to show the distances between planets accurately, also whilst designing and making the Orrery I decided to sloooooow down the orbital speeds of the moons.
Height to the top of the Sun ball is twelve and a half inches. The brass calendar ring is ten inches in diameter by half an inch thick.
Centre of the Sun to the centre of Pluto is approx eighteen inches.
Total weight 14lbs
