This clock was named after Charles, Fourth Earl of Orrery, in 1716. It consists of 2 movements controlled by an 11 jewelled platform escapement. One movement indicates normal hours and minutes, the other powers 6 planets to rotate round the Sun. The earth rotates every 365 days, and Saturn, with its rings depicted in silver, takes 29.5 years to complete its journey. The other planets shown are Mercury, Venus, Mars and Jupiter. The clock comes with a mahogany base and glass dome.
